about us
Back in 1991 two friends, Carolyn Stennett and Jane Abrey, launched
their own shoe party business, loading their cars and a small trailer
with shoes which were sold at their hostesses' home. They soon
progressed to selling shoes at country shows, loading their stock into
a horsebox.
The next natural step was to open a shop and finally they found
just the right place, in Hatter Street, Bury St Edmunds. A second shop
in Newmarket followed two years ago.
They originally thought of calling the business Chico after seeing
a film about a little Spanish boy called Chico, the name was stylish
and catchy with a continental feel. However, one of their suppliers
said "you don't want Chico, you want Chica because that is a
young girl", the business had a name!
Carolyn and Jane buy most of their shoes from Italy and Spain, some
of their styles are made exclusively for them. They always limit the
quantities to ensure that element of exclusivity, usually buying no
more than 12 pairs in assorted sizes in any one style.
When the shop first opened it sold mainly loafers, today they stock
over 300 different styles in summer and stunning shoe and bag
collections for weddings and other special occasions.
